No audio with copy of The sims

I made a copy of the sims using cdr-win and it works fine except for the fact that there is no audio. I made a one to one copy with no patch and am using daemon tools to get around the safe disk protection could this be the reason. Also i would like to be able to use the patch but im rather new at this so any help on how to create the temp directory and apply the patch or maby even a link to a faq sheet about doing this would be great thanx.
