had the same problem--- I adjusted the laser pot to just over 600 ohms & all is fine now! (see PS2 tutorial on most popular PSX games sites) (if you need more details - post me.) DO NOT adjust the DVD pot - just the laser. ** also - ONLY use good quality CDr's for backup - ie. VERBATIM 24x (not cheapo types) as SONY seem to have calibrated the laser to be VERY fussy about which disks it can read reliably. Best regards....kev1n~
