Neo 2,5 : too nice to be true?

I've read that neo 2,5 reads dvd backups even in a ps2 v5 pal. Is that true? Moreover, I've also read that you only have to do a swap and that it has only 5 wires. In what consists that swap, what do you have to do to run dvd'r?
