Some tips on recoding videos(h264,h265, bik, bk2) advanced tutorial
hello all, Kitsune1982 here.
i would like to touch up further on elit's video encoding thread. while his tut was good for hd/high rez bitrate videos, what about older games like syberia 2 with small bik files? well here is a tutorial to cover how to properly shrink them. what you will need: 1.tmpgenc video mastering works 5 - not gonna tell you where to get this either buy it or google it. 2.rad video tools 3.gold wave - for shrinking wav files 4.vlc media player - for previewing bik files 5.klite mega codec pack - for showing mkv bitrate info 6.easiestsoft video converter - all you need is the free trial - for checking bik bitrate info 7.depending on size/amount of videos/audio between 5-40 gb of free space. most older games will only use 500-2 gb of total video files but some games videos will be several gb in size for one file and you will also need storage space for not only the original video/audio files you are encoding but also for the output ones also. 8.Bulk Rename Utility - for all in one file renaming/extension changing step 1. find the bik file you want to shrink. step 2.open tmpgenc video mastering works. step 3.click new project -> add file step 4.go to your games video folder - i suggest making a backup folder with the bik files in it in case the output video doesnt look good. step 5.doubleclick on the bik file you want to re-encode step 6.click format step 7.click mkv step 8.in the dropdowns under level click 5 for profile click high, performance level click slow then under settings click bitrate. *** note, bitrate is different for each file. generally 3200 kb/sec is good bitrate but use rad video tools or easiestsoft video converter to check bitrate first step 9.set bitrate to 4000 kb/sec if video file is over 30-60 mb if under 30 mb play around with the settings. step 10.Go back to edit tab and click the dropdown arrow next to audio and click 'no audio'. you will be muxing in the audio later on in the tutorial and this will speed up the encoding process. step 11.on the encoding tab on the right click video only. step 12.click encode and wait for it to finish. right click on the video preview window and under preview update select none. this will speed up the encoding process. ====PART 2: Downsampling the Audio==== 1.find the sound file you want to shrink. for this tutorial we will assume sound file is a .wav file. 2.open goldwave. 3.click file->open then go to the folder your wav files are in. 4.if you have one wav file double click on it to load it into goldwave. if you have more than one, click file->batch processing. - more on this further down - 5.click save as->type->wave then click attributes 6.for rates click 44100 hz, for bitrate choose 50 to 100 under all bitrates. 7.for format click AC-3 ACM Codec 44100 khz, Stereo, 96 kbps 8.click save. ===Part 2 Subsection - Batch Processing=== 1.Click file->batch processing 2.for individual files or more than one file on the right click add files. for folders click add folder and navigate to the folder your music files are in. 3.click convert tab. 4.now this section is subjective but most common rules apply. for wav, you want AC-3 ACM Codec Stereo 96kbps if dealing with pc games, if its a ps2 game you want to leave it at defaults because i dont know if the ps2 will play games with lower bitrates. i will test this in the future and write a new tutorial if it can. for mp3 you want LAME for codec, stereo for type 44100 khz for rate and for bitrate you want 48 kbps. for ogg you want vorbis, stereo, 44100 khz 112 kbps (0.3q) 5.click destination tab. 6.store all files in this folder and change it to a temp folder you make and that you choose. 7.click begin. depending on how many files you have and the speed of your computer as well as the length of the file, this can take a few minutes or as long as a few hours. when all files have been successfully processed, click ok and close goldwave. ====PART 4 - Encoding with Rad Video Tools==== 1.find the mkv files you made earlier and open the folder. ** you will need to click the 'type' dropdown at the bottom and select 'all files' as mkv is not in the default selection list. I suggest storing all your encoded videos you make with your chosen video conversion tools - though for most videos i STRONGLY suggest you use tmpgenc video mastering works 5, if you encode using anything else the videos will look all blocky blurry and bad quality even using the same settings as in tmpgenc - in a temp folder such as x:\video temp. 2.load the mkv file for encoding by left clicking the mkv file and click 'bink it!' 3.now there are a few things to consider here. elit already covered this in a previous tutorial but i will further elaborate on the settings. there are 2 options and 3 sub options depending on your source format and the format your game uses. under file format, for most games you will click 'use bink 1' but for newer games if the end of your original movie file ends with .bk2 then you will click the 'bink 2 hdr' radio button. 4.Automatic (based on input file) - usually you only want to use this if you dont care about high file size and want instant conversion. 5.for overall data settings again this depends on the length and size of your original video. if the video is several gb in size, 320000 bytes is more than sufficient but again this is trial and error. some videos will look a lot better with higher bitrate, some you can get away with a lower bitrate but you usually DO NOT want to go lower than 250000 bitrate. 5.compress to a % of the original. usually 20 percent is sufficent though i highly recommend you use compress to a data rate (bytes). 6.Keep peak data rate under a: multiple of data rate - use 1.0 or 9.0, anything else gives low results. 7.specific data rate (bytes) - 320000 is good enough here. 8.How frames to preview during bandwidth allocation (2-64) use 2 or 64, this give best results. 9.Input Video Settings - you generally dont want to mess with these. 10.Compress Audio - set to 0 or 4 for best results. 11.Finally click Bink and wait. ===PART 3 - Video/Audio Sound Muxing (combining)=== 1.Now that you have your re-encoded bik file and your resampled wav file, its time to bring them together. 2.Go back to the rad video tools main screen. move your resampled wav files to your encoded video folder with your bik files you just made, and click on the bik file or files you want to combine with your sound file. click 'mix in sound'. 3.Under sound file to mix, click browse and select your wav file/s. then click on batch if mixing more than one or mix if just mixing one or just one at a time. ===Part 4 - Batch File Renaming/Extension changing=== 1.Open Bulk Rename Utility. 2.Go to the folder with your new bik files and under replace type in New_ and left click on the first file, hold shift and hold the down arrow key to mass select all the files, then under renaming options click prevent duplicates and then click rename. ** note, for some games, like syberia 1, the bik files are named differently. the bik files in that game have the .syb extension so to make them bik files just highlight all of them by holding shift and the down arrow key then under extension click fixed then type in .bik. to name them back when you're done editing them do the same process in reverse and under extension click fixed then type in .syb. Hope this helped you guys out. you all are free to do like elit instructed in his tutorial or you can give mine a try. catch you all on the flip side. -Kitsune |
