Coolboarders 2001___Need help!

I have a chip in my sons PS1.. I just spent $38 on Coolboarders 2001 and in won't play. I get a message that the console "might" have been tampered with.. DUhhh...
I downloaded a patch from Gamecopyworld and when I go to patch it I get the message Couldn't open ISO.. So I thought I'd find another one...Same thing... What am I doing wrong? Help! I can't take the friggen game back and I told my 10 year old "I won't give up"...
