Does anyone out there know anything about XPS?

I have a Dance dance revolution game that I want to make a backup copy. The game is protected. I have already read on how to patch this game. I have CDRWIN, the XPS patch, and P4U. I don't understand the part about changing your path by going to the MS DOS prompt. Can someone give me a simple instruction in which a non computer wiz would understand. I appreciate your help.
