How to improve sound in Connectix VGS in onboard sound systems?

I play some PSX games (e.g. Resident Evil 3) on Connectix VGS . The game runs OK (graphic-wise) but the sound quality is poor and choppy. How I can improve the sound quality? I have PIII 800, 64 MB RAM and onboard sound (SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio). Any driver updates! Any links and suggestions are welcome!
