Patches!!!!!!

Are Patches a must for PSX2 cause i bought a PSX2 waiting on the mod-chip,and i've already burned crazy taxi for psx2 i burned it by my software that says (make exact copy of disk) and it had no errors or trouble what so ever so tell me what you think ?
