For the 2 DSlites I got here I went from 2, 4 to 8GB MicroSD so that should answer your question

Most of the games are 32-64MB with a max of 128MB (only 5% or so) so a 8GB SD holds an average of 180 games

And as for ripping your originals, it's just too much work as EVERYTHING is available online...
