crash bash?????

I downloaded the patch yesterday and tried it. It did not work for me either! I have an older U.S. Playstation with an older modchip.
I wondered if a newer modchip would make the difference...
I have read several feedbacks on this forum where half the people say that Crash Bash runs fine for them, the other half says it does not...
Is anyone with a U.S. Playstation (NTSC format) currently running a backup copy of this game? If so did you have to apply a patch or was it simply a direct copy? I have been waiting for months for a good patch for this game!
