Your first action when encountering a problem like this should always be to update all your drivers to the very latest versions. Sound, graphics, chipset - everything. You only mention sound and graphics. Chipset drivers can also be very important. Did you upgrade those?
If you are using a crack, you should get the new crack that was made recently, but it won't work for the MP section of the game, only SP. If you are not using a crack, then you should head to Lucasarts for official support.
