PS2 modchip problems?

I have had a modchip in my PS2 for about 4 months now, it had been working great until recently. The problem I am having is that every now and then the tray will not close. It stays open and does not close if I hit the eject button or hold down the power button. If I try and close the tray by pushing it in the eject light ####ts blinking and the tray will open. It is really ####ting to piss me off!! If I desolder the wires on the modchip,power up the PS2 for a second and then resolder them it will work fine for a day or two and then it will ####t doing it again. Does this sound like a problem with my modchip or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
