DVD problems with PS2..(off topic probably!)

Sorry if this is off topic, and for posting in other places...

I just got hold of a PS2 and tried to play DVDs on it, I have it connected through the Scart lead to my vcr (since VCR doesnt have line ins), trouble is the Macrovision copy protection kicks in, and I can't watch it.
I have hooked it up thru line ins to my portable TV and it plays fine, I can;t hook it up to our main TV as we already have Sky Digital hooked up that way, and that would be too much hassle to remove everytime, so does anyone know if there is a way that I can watch DVDs using my PS2? or is it a case that really Sony didn't think about this properly?

Can I also disable the region checking (PS2 is SCPH-30003)?
