Purchasing a laptop...please advise

Depends on what you will use the laptop for.

For example a laptop for gaming is going to cost way too much money and will become obsolete in 6 months because of the graphics card alone (it was never as good as a desktop anyway)

If you want a laptop for "everyday things" then they are much cheaper.

My point is that laptops represent the opposite of customization.
