Post Is there a list of what games use what protections?

Yes yes yes, I am well aware, there is a subforum called "PC Games - Protection List" but it only seems to be a list of popular mainstream games, not most pc games in general.

I have old PCs, by best one is still a Pentium 3 and my CELLPHONE has a faster cpu than some of my lower end ones. So I really have not been bothering to keep up with pc gaming for the last few years. But I am planning to build a new pc soon so I want to know a few things when I get back in.

Is there any site that lists what copy protections each game uses?

I know there is a site that tells you what games use starforce (these games I will NEVER play or purchase, not even download the demos) but that is only one protection. I am looking for a (legal) site that tells me what game uses what protection.

Reason being, I once downloaded the free Trackmania Sunrise demo. I loved the game and was planning on buying it, but I noticed my burner was seriously messing up, it eventually pretty much became 100% inoperable. I had to replace it, and my new burner for some reason was stuck in PIO mode.

I eventually found out about starforce and scanned my system, it was indeed there. The only game with starforce that even touched my system was the demo (comon, why would you protect a DEMO?). After I removed it my drives all performed much better and in Ultra DMA mode.

So anyway, there is this general store near my house that actually carries a very small amount of software. Usually titles that were released years ago and are now out of print or total junk. They boviously don't know how to price anything either as good games might go for $2 and total junk like a digital jigsaw puzzle program with 6 images will go for $10. But every now and then you tend to find a gem.

A few months ago I saw Max Payne 2 and Scrapland there for about $5 each. However, I didn't do any research on these games. I found out that scrapland has starforce.

While I know its possible to strip it out, it still requires that I install the game (with starforce) first, I refuse to do that, so I guess thats a $5 loss.

Anyway, just yesterday I got Psychonauts for $4. I found out that this uses Securerom7. While I don't have a problem with this, apparnetly version 7 installs some service on my PC that some reported causes problems (though nothing like starforce). I am not sure if I want to install this.

I know nearly every PC game nowadays uses copy protection, so I am not tying to only purchase games with no protection, but I would at least like to know what I have in store if I were to buy a game.

So is there such a list anywhere?
