Emperor Rotmk installs but wont run

Hi guys & gals

I have just bought a legit version of Emperor Rotmk, it installs fine but it will not play. My system (running on XP) is way more advanced than the recommended but I do get a message on installation that better Direct x was found.

Why won't the game run. I have tried installing the patch but that makes no difference.

I am getting tired of buying cheap games that wont run. Surely you dont have to pay A$100 to buy a game that runs on todays gaming PCs - can you help ?
