NoCD and Patches

First of all, I would like to say hello to all forum members, because this is my first post. That's my question: I got several games I cannot have patches installed, because they are not original ones. If I download from this site a NO CD file for a game and copy it to the right directory, the correspondent patch could be installed and work properly? I ask you that because I have two titles I love to play: Rome - Total War and its expansion Barbarian Invasion and Call of Duty 2. I downloaded their patches but could not install it, because my copies are not original. All I want is to have the patches applied to these games and play them with improvements. Any help will be appreciated.
