No problem, thank you very much for your time and efforts. I've just checked out the maxi image further down the page and that works absolutely fine (as does the original exe) so it must be something that is altered as a result of the activemark protection that is causing this

running in compatability mode produces strange results. The first time that you run the exe after selecting one of the compatability modes is works absolutely fine and the process exits when you quit. However, if i run the program a second time the process does not quit when you exit the game. Very weird!

Similarly, if you make the exe file read only, it works the first time you exit the game, but subsequent tries don't work
