Can 360 games be backup or not?

Okay sorry but I seem a little dense here, but the stickeys on this forum seem a little out of date.

I've got tons of kids. These kids are young and they break and destroy theirs and my toys. Most notably they destroy game disks. I sold my systems that I can't backup the disks a long time ago. For the past few years I have had success with my original Xbox and soldered in a mod chip. The kids the games off the HD. And I put the orignal on the shelve. (We don't do xbox live)

Now some simple question:

1) Will the mod chips out there for 360, allow me to make a backup of my original game and then play it? I wanna put the original on a shelve as my kids destroy my crap too often.

2) How are backups done? For original Xbox I had to FTP to a 'puter on the network, and then copy back to the HD or burn a DVD. It is the same type of process for 360?

I ask because if I can't make a backup reasonabley easy then I am not going to buy 360.

thanks
