Is there a fully functional PlayStation 2 MOD Chip on the market for the USA PS2?
First of all, there is not a fully functional PlayStation 2 MOD Chip that does not require a swap trick on the North American market yet. With the release of PlayStation 2 on October 26, there simply hasn’t been sufficient time to develop and fully test a PS2 MOD Chip. Since the main board in the USA PS2 is different than that of the Japanese PS2, full testing could not be conducted on the Japanese PS2 alone.

What about the websites that claim to have a PS2 MOD Chip?
Read the small print, all the PS2 MOD Chips on the market thus far require a complicated swap trick or require extensive disassembly of the PS2 or removal of vital components. There are other PS2 MOD Chips out there that are only for the Japanese PS2 and require swapping the utility disk (only available for Japanese PS2’s) for the desired game disk. So in short, if it looks too good to be true, chances are it is.
