To your 1. problem:
So you are running the game from your original DVD at the moment!? Perhaps you should update the drivers of your graphics card! This could help! Also make sure that you've installed the latest version of DirectX (V. 9.0c, Update February 2006). To your 2. problem: The only chance is to unplug the optical (physically existing) IDE drives! If you have no idea about this, you should better leave this and take the original DVD for playing! Only use this method, if you exactly know what you're doing!!!
