Thanks I did it in the end. My other burner is the 16x no name d/l-s/l. I bought some different media (just standard tdk s/l) and copied and burned at 1x in the 106d. For some reason the no name won't burn at under 4x which is a drag because the Pioneer is the sec-slave and the no-name sec-master. As far as I can yell as the laser is burning out.

I'm having to use much better media. No more 40 cent blanks. The protection on PAL discs is improving making accuracy much more important. I've already put a hard drive in to read cd's which the laser no longer does but for me and the young fella a hard drive thru a network adapter hasn't been that good of a solution. There always seems to be audio problems.

The real solution would be to replace the laser but since v4 lasers are the proverbial hen's teeth that isn't possible.
