ASPack is an EXE compression algorithm, not a protection scheme. Most likely, the game's EXE has been compressed AFTER it has been protected. Therefore, you need to uncompress the EXE first and then scan it for a protection. If you see a progress bar as you say, the game is probably protected with Starforce (I think it's the only protection that shows a progress bar).
