HELP backup

I have just got a DC emulator so has my friend yesterday he went and bought a DC game but he couldnt play it on his Emu.

I was going to buy one today but he said dont becasue your CD and DVD drive wont be able to read it so you cant play it.

So how could i play the game using my emu? So how can you back up your dc games?
