WA on W64

I am trying to run Winter Assault on Windows x64, but it hangs once loaded. Initially event log said that tandpl.sys was being blocked as it is not supported on Winx64, so I renamed the file so it is inaccessible. I am guessing it is part of the copy protection system, as the game still doesn't work.

I don't particularly care about running without the original CD (as I have it right here in front of me)... I just want to be able to run it at all. I registered with the official website from the game, and despite saying they respond within 24 hours I've heard squat.

Is it a copy prevention system causing this? If so why are they so naff by not supporting software that early adopters (e.g. high spenders) are likely to use?

So far Microsoft official support have been equally slow, but I expect that.
