how would using the original discs prove if a chip is outdated?
Because the chip read's the same info regardless if it's the original or not. Once it picks up a)what type of disc it is (ie cd/dvd) it then looks for the ps2 hex boot code. If it finds the boot code then it will use the chip to "fool" it thinking its an original. It does this regardless of if it's the original or not .....if ur chip is working properly!
