Finally a way to convert a PS2 with sanyo laser to a KHS-400C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A member of a Spanish forum called MagicX that goes by Dampro has released a dev application that can be booted in a modded PS2 to flash your PS2's eeprom to work with different types of lasers. This is great for PS2 users that have open faced Sanyo lasers (R-type) that want to be able to upgrade to the more reliable and available KHS-400C (C-type) lasers.

I used it on a V7 with a R-type laser. I booted the .elf with an old version of pukklink and inlink over the network addapter. The application even detected that it was a V7. Here are some screen shots of it in action.

Splash screen

Warning screen

eeprom back-up screen

Select the laser you want screen

Program the eeprom screen

You can make a back-up of your current eeprom by pressing R1 that saves directly to the folder on your PC were you booted the .elf from. You want to make a back-up first unless you get into trouble you can restore the eeprom to its original state by pressing L1. Then you can select the laser you want to flash the eeprom to. When you get to the program screen you press start and the flash operation is over very quickly.

I then turned off the PS2 and put in a brand new KHS-400C and it worked awesome the first time!!! This application can be used on V5-V10 PS2's and is in beta as of yet. If you don’t know what you are doing dont do this because if you screw something up you will leave your eeprom damaged and in worse shape then you were with the R-type. I would link to the .elf but its not mine to do so or confirmed that the developer wants it to be spread anywhere other then the MagicX forum.

Here is a rough translation of the original post at MagicX

Thank you Dampro for this great application. I will no longer need to search for the R-type lasers that are no longer made and I can now upgrade customers to the better KHS-400C lasers that are sold brand new.
