Well small things first...
It is pretty likely that your xbox will say 50000+ avaible for a looong time. That's (originally) the free space to save savegames too, and they're not big. About you having a modchip or not, that is nothing I can answer without more info like where you bought it, did the store say it was chipped, can you play backuped games burned on DVDr? And about transferring to hdd I think that has been answered a LOT of times around here. So you go check things out and get back later!
