Having to repeat the same operation with HDL

Hi,

When I'm using HD Loader. I am forced to do things twice to get it done.
First, when I put my new HDD in, it asked me to format, I said OK, but them it gave me Fatal Error, saying Formatting failed. But, when I rebooted HDL, it looked like it was formatted already. It went straight to the menu.
Now, whenever I try to install a new game, it says the following after I enter the game name:
Not enough space is available on the HDD, Please free up some space.
But, there's plenty of space.
And, if I try it the second time around, it works fine.
Did anybody have the same or similar experience?
What could be the cause and how can I fix it?

Thanks
