Thanks for all of your help, but what it ended up being was when I upgraded the firmware, my secondary IDE channel 0 was on PIO mode. I couldn't get it to switch so I installed a little older firmware and the reisntalled byo2 firmware and I could swith the setting back to DMA mode. I no longer get the slow motion sheep writing and a disc writes in 4x in about 15 minutes with either the imation or ritek-ridata g05.

I still have not had a chance to test the dvd to see if it skips around, but when I do, I'll be sure to report.
