Diner Dash help-how do you get that stuff???

i was reading the directions for diner dash and i saw that you can get a stereo, fast running shoes, an oven, and a mime that all help you, but how the heck do you get them? this question is really for anyone who's gotten far in the game. i haven't beaten it yet, but i started a new player and have been shooting for expert scores (and doing quite well), but i'm on the second last level of the third restaurant with a bunch of stars and NOTHING to show for them!!! has anyone gotten to these? please help me get help!!!
