Cops 2170: Power of Law problems

Always seem to get this error on starting the game (both v1.0 and v1.22):-

Code: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
Description: The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.

Searched quite a few forums. Doesn't appear like anyone has encountered this problem b4, so if it isn't a s/w prob, suspect it might be my rig.

It's a brand new computer, using Windows XP SP2 Profressional.

My system specs are as follows:-
CPU: AMD Athlon64 XP 3200+ Socket939
MB: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe (Bios 1003 final)
RAM: Corsair DDR400 1GB x 2
Graphics: MSI Geforce 6600GT 128mb PCI-E SLI x 2 (Nvidia driver 66.93)

At first, I though it might've been an SLI problem, but turning off SLI produced the exact same startup error.

Could any of you gurus out there help?
