magic2 with on/off switch....

I desolder the 5v wire that attaches to the 5v spot onthe magic2 and runs to a 5v spot on the motherboard. I then solder a 3" wire to that 5v spot on the magic2. Now i have 2 wires, 1 coming from the 5v spot on the magic2 and 1 wire coming from the 5v spot on the motherboard. I ran both wires thru a hole of the PS2 case. Now if i want to play a copy, i use a alligator clip to hold both wires together. But i want to play an original online then i separate those 2 wires. I tried an on/off switch but it didnt work. I used my original Everquest online adventures. went online, dna$ ran and i passed.

is there any harm in doing it this way? someone posted a differnet method of using the reset and cutting a trace an that.
