Benq Dvd Rw

I have just installed a new benq DVD rewriter in my P.C but every time I try to burn a backup of one of my DVD games it says there is not enough space on the disc. Also sometimes when I put a DVD disc in with data on it it says the disc is empty. Why is this happening?
