Problem with New DC and Copied Games, Help Plz!

I have been burning games just fine for a friend, but now that I bought a DC the same games don't work for me. It was the Sonic Package with VMU & 2 games included. Could it be that new DC are different and piracy resistant? Any knowledge or hearsay or guesses would be greatly welcomed.
