Rome total war save/load

Can't seem to be able to save or load in rome total war i have tried running it from 2 different cracks and 2 different no-cd patches and they all run the game fine but the Save and Load option are faded out(non-clickable) on the options menu. upon trying a qucik save i recieve the msg "Save Failed".

anybody come accorss this before or better yet figure out how to fix it?
