Angry Imperial Irritation!

Empires Dawn of the Modern World - I have just re-installed this game using the original CD. It won't run, up come the splash screens followed by the message "please insert correct CD1" - this is what is in the drive! The disc is clean and unscratched.

I know I thought, I'll download a nocd patch - appears to work, get into the game for about 30 secs then it locks the whole PC.

Now I read this forum and what do I find? The publisher has seen fit to include a protection that has the audacity to scan my PC for any form of virtual hard drive or copy software - - how dare they? If I am running a legit disc of the game what business is it of their's what is on my pc.

Now, am I correct in my interpretation of the problem or is there some other explanation? If I am correct is there any form of legit protest that is going on because this sort of behavior by a publisher is totally unacceptable.
