Mafia - 3CD to DVD backup?

been trying to back up some of my games recently, backing them up onto DVD if they justify it by being on a lot of cds. this way it saves disk swapping while installing and saves space, also gives the capacity to include any updates or addons that have been released for the game since the retail.

however i'm stuck with Mafia - i dump the files from the 3 disks into one directory on my hard drive, and it wont install, either from there or if it was burned to dvd (tested using iso creating software to save disks)

it begins the install and immediately asks for disk 1. i've tried naming the dvd to the name of disk 1 (MAFIA_CD_1) and it installs fine until it needs disk 2... and then asks for it.

so surely the info. is kept somewhere telling it to look for the name of the disk? does anyone have any idea how i can change this to make it look in the same folder?
