nocd for battlefield 1942?

Hello Im a noobie as many would like to call , from what I have read, their is a patch that allows me to play the game without having to insert the disc. Is this true? And if it is how does it work and where would I get the patch? And what is required in an instalation? Thank You For you time, StratusMatt
