dvd and cd burning speed problem

Hi,

my dvd burner is 8x, the media i use is 1-4x but when i try to burn at 4x, it says cant burn at 4x due to drive restriction so i hav to use 2x.

Is there any problem with my HDD? (its 120GB and 8MB of buffer)

The same thing happens with my cd burner, i can only burn at 24x while the max speed is 52.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is?
