Armed and Dangerous...without the CD?

Just got this game yesterday. The crack works, in that you can play from a backup, but you are still asked for CD1 to be in the drive, which is a right pain. There must be a file on CD1 that is not installed during game install. You can't just copy CD1 to the game directory, as many installed files have the same name, and it messes up the directory structure. It may be that the game code will only check for this file (whatever it is) from the CD drive, in which case I'm wasting my time. I just find this situation pointless, as the game run exe on the CD doesn't even need to be replaced i.e CD1 burned with fixed exe, in order for the game to run. It may be some clever protection I'm not aware of, but it better kick in soon, as I'm on level 12!
