NWN multiplayer

I have read all the recent threads about this, they don't help me resolve this problem.

I got the 1.61 nocd exe from gcw, and so I have now patched up.

I get into the game list on gamespy fine now, but the exact same thing happens every time I try to join a game:

Attempting to find server.
Server found. Attempting to log in.
Connection to server has failed.
Connection error: Your CD key is unauthorized.

I have added a hosts entry so nwmaster.bioware.com resolves to 127.0.0.1. I don't know what is causing this rejection. Could it be the actual host of the game?

Is anyone successfully playing internet multiplayer games of nwn using invalid cd keys?
