Backup games wreck Dreamcast?

I've heard many people claiming that Dreamcast backups damage the Dreamcast's laser? Is this true? I know this has been asked but let's get a final word on the subject because i'm sure we all don't want to go and buy new lasers every couple monthes. So do backups wreck Dreamcasts or not? And what tips do you guys have in burning backups that work safely with the Dreamcast and don't cause the laser in the Dreamcast to over-work or burn out? Thanks a lot, help set the record straight.
