Sounds like an overheating problem to me. My PC, did the same thing and come to find out the fan on my videocard, although still turning was slowly dying.
Try this. Open your PC case, and point a large housefan towards the inside, then try playing any of the games that give you problems, if they work ok, then you will know for sure it is an overheating problem. Just a suggestion
