Dvd-RW and CD-RW??

I have a question... I have backed up my games on DVD-RW and CD-RWs. They start up fine but as soon as it gets to thes start screen it freezes. Is it my playstation, my mod, the games, or the CDs im using? Is there a certian way that they need to be burnt? any helpwould be greatly apreciated THX...
