F1 2001

Please help, just got PS2 chipped I think its a NEO 2.5 (How can I find out)
I am using the DVD Region X boot method (new version without dongle thing) and have not had any problems until I tried my friends backup of F1 2001, thinking it just didnt work I took it back to my mate, along with my DVD X cd, he tried the game using his AR2 cd and dongle first using all three different methods he knew, holding the button then swapping the cd's, holding the button take AR2 cd out close tray, then put game cd in and the load AR2 cd then put Game in afterwards without holding reset button method.
The game worked fine using the third method (No Button), then he removed his AR2 Dongle and tried my DVDX cd, again he loaded the cd without button pressed, opened tray put in the game cd and it worked.

I went back home and tried this method on my PS2 but it still didnt work, please help me.
