Only using the PS2 for CD copies and PSX/PS2 originals... will still wreck your laser, just a teensy bit slower.
Now, on the Neo2.5+DVD, the damage seems to happen MUCH slower if that's all you use it for (my laser is still in top-notch condition despite a year or more of moderate use for PSX copies and PS2 CD copies and DVD originals). But seriously - if you're willing to open the box up and solder in resistors and capacitors... just spend a few bucks and get a new chip, huh? - Gurm
