Standing PSX on its side question

I am backing up games and some play fine when my PSX (SCPH-7001) is just flat in the regular position. However, some will ONLY play when I stand my psx up on its side. I'm guessing it may be a weak laser problem...

But my main question is: Are the games I just made copies of that need my psx on its side, 100% ok? Is it only the PSX's fault? I ask because I want to know if these copies are worth keeping just in case I need to make another backup in the future.

Oh yea I'm planning on getting a PSone (those small new ones) + chipped. will that have any compatibility effects on the games I've burned?
