Yeah, every laser is adjusted slightly differently. With dvd-r if your laser dodgy it tends to read sum but not others whereas dvd=r tends to have a threshold. It either won't look at it or reads it perfectly.
Most version 4's I've chipped won't even recognise dvd-r to start with without a quick tweak of the laser. Glad to hear it all worked out okay in the end. Regards
