Sony DRU-500A problems

I have a Dell Precision 220- Pentium 3 -728 - 500mb RAM.
I am running win 2k, with record now max and nero 5.5.15a.

I have used Bulkpaq 1x media which take about an hour to burn and are not compatible in many dvd players.
I have recently aqquired Ritek 2x silver discs with purple bottoms. I was told they should of had a white printable surface on them but such was demand that they were released without surface.
After several copies I found these are compatible in alot more dvd players(even my ps2 that would not play bulkpaq)
The only problem is now I am experiencing alot of coasters with record now max(and nero)
The error codes aren't even in the help section to tell me what the problem is.

I upgraded my firmware from 2.0C to 2.0E but no difference.
I checked a sony compatible list and it says for the Ritek media I should be using 1.0F.

The thing is I don't know how to downgrade firmware as I did not even know how to disable DMA settings in win2k!

Can anyone offer help or suggestions or should I move on to more expensive media like Verbatim?
